Research project: The coexistence between different religions in Castelló d'Empúries

Introduction

As the title says, the topic of my research project is to analyze the coexistence of the different religions in my village. I chose this subject because in my private live there are similar experiences and therefore it has a special meaning for me. For me, it was important to find out if people of different religions in Castelló d’Empúries are matching together.  And how is their daily life together, what are their convictions, point of views etc.

Theory

In this part I explain the different existing religions. Like for example Buddhism, Hinduism and Chinese religion. But I tried to focus on three main religions: Catholicism, Muslims and Jews because in my village these three religions are the most represented.

Practice

Until now I only resumed information which I got from different areas, like for example internet, newspaper and television.  But in this part, I tried to go deeper and show the real life that means how do they really live together? Is there a real coexistence? Or does each sector live their marginal life? How did I get the information I needed?

First of all, I did some interviews with 5 young people. I chose them of the different main religions and prepared a questionnaire with basic information about their private life, their habits and their faiths. After getting a solid base for continuing with my research, I decided to interview the priest of Castelló .d.E. in order to evaluate the answers of the questionnaires – and who better than a person who dedicated his entire life to represent one of the most important religions of the world.

Finally we did a round table between the priest, the interviewed young people and me in order to discuss the different visions and intolerance between one and the other. The priest with all his experience helped us to get different point of views.

First of all, I am happy of the results that I have obtained because they have fulfilled all the expectations that I have proposed. I've noticed that the lack of information can lead to intolerance. It is the fear of the unknown and that causes difficulties in coexistence among different religions. For pacific coexistence it is necessary to open your mind and accept that each person must be respected independent of his faith or convictions.

My self evaluation

I can say that I am really happy of the oral presentation I have done. 
I am happy because I think I have done it very very well and all my nerves disappeared completely. 
At the beggining I was scared because I didn't want to do the oral presentation allone in front of all the class, but when I was there, doing it, I was very quiet and happy.
My final mark is 7,5 and for me it is a perfect mark for an oral presentation in english and because not many people of the class overcame this not, and I am proud of myself and the results.
